Overview
The Third Judicial District Court has a walk-in Self-Help Center that offers one-on-one services to people representing themselves in their court case.
No appointments are taken; services are on a first-come first-served basis. Staff provides general information (not legal advice) about representing yourself, what the court can and cannot do for you, and helps with brochures, court forms, and court form packets.
Examples of What the Self-help Center CAN do for you:
- Talk about court procedures.
- Give information on what forms need to be filled-out.
- Explain the “steps” required in your court case.
- Review your court forms (but only to see if they are complete).
- Notarize your court forms (there is no charge for this service).
- If your problem is too complicated for the Center, suggest other service providers.
Examples of What the Self-help Center CANNOT do for you:
- Give you legal advice.
- Tell you what your rights are. That’s legal advice.
- Tell you what you should do or can do in your case. That’s legal advice.
- Fill-out your court forms for you.
- Talk to the judge for you.
